If installed on a wood unit, the crimped end of an increaser or reducer should be installed so it prevents creosote from dripping back and out the pipe.
If installing on a gas unit, the crimped end should be installed to facilitate the elimination of exhaust gas without risking leaks.
These increaser/reducers are made of 24 gauge steel
